A Meeting at the Dragline is planned for 11am on Tuesday the 9th of May, 2023. To be attended by Members of The Friends of St Aidans BE1150 Walking Dragline, and any other interested parties. To discuss anything relevant to the future of the Dragline.
PARKING. Please park on site and not on the main road, as double yellow lines are now in place. Resulting in heavy fines. If in any doubt, please ask any Member of the Friends present on the day.
The Friends of the Dragline will be opening the Substation at the St Aidans site on Saturday & Sunday, the 17th & 18th of September, 2022, from 12.00 to 16.00. Working models of Draglines will be on display. The BE1150 Walking Dragline is not currently able to open to visitors.
We are not able to take part in the Heritage Open Days this year. There will be no Open Days at St Aidans this month. For more information, please email this Website.
Due to the effects of the Coronavirus, which has had an adverse effect on maintenance of the Dragline and the Compound, we have had to cancel all of our Open Days this year. As the situation eases, we hope to be able to continue caring for this unique machine, the only one of its kind remaining in Great Britain. Please continue to check on this Website for updates regarding the situation. Emails to this Website are still being monitored and will be answered as promptly as possible.
Due to the Friends of the Dragline having been unable to meet up together and make preparations, our 2021 Open Days are still on hold. If we are able to take part in the Heritage Open Days in September, this will be announced in the News and Events section of this Website.
The Dragline Christmas Dinner for 2020 has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus situation. We hope to organise some events during 2021, if and when it is safe to do so. If this becomes possible, any proposed events will be listed in the News and Events section of the Website. Due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak, our planned September Open Days will not take place. These would have been part of the Heritage Open Days Scheme. We are hoping to be able to resume Open Days next year, our provisional dates are listed in the post below. Details will be updated in line with the situation next year.
Our 2020 events remain postponed until further notice. Looking to next year, we hope that our 2021 AGM will take place at 2pm on Saturday, the 27th of March, in the Substation at St Aidans. Our 2021 Open Days are planned for Saturday, the 17th of April, Saturday, the 12th of June, and Saturday and Sunday the 11th and 12th of September. We hope to be open from 1pm to 4pm on all of those days. These dates will be confirmed when the Coronavirus situation allows. The 2020 AGM of the Friends of the Dragline will take place at 2pm on Saturday, the 4th of April, 2020, on site, in the Substation at St Aidans.
Our Open Days dates for 2020 are Saturday, the 18th of April, Saturday the 13th of June and Saturday & Sunday the 12th and 13th of September. The September opening is part of the Heritage Open Days Week. We will be open to visitors from 1pm to 4pm on all of those days. Admission to the Dragline is free.
